bf2 patch v1.50

It's great when companies continue to support their games. Despite the odds, people still play Battlefield 2, and they'll be reassured to know that patch 1.50 is still being developed with an open beta possibly coming in a month or so. Here's the change log, for anyone interested:

UPDATE 9/1: THE 1.5 PATCH IS NOW AVAILABLE (Update 8/27: The updated and complete change log can be found here.)

============ Update v1.50 ============ FEATURES - Additional support for Windows Vista. - Added Highway Tampa as a required map. - Added a new map called Operation Blue Pearl. GAMEPLAY TWEAKS - Changes made to both the J10 and F35B to make them more balanced. Please note that the J10 is a superior dogfighter to the F35B and as such these two aircraft will never be equally matched. - AA targeting tweaked to make it more effective. - Added checks to prevent "runway grieving". - Various changes made to prevent cheating. - Tweaked the hit detection, hits will be more accurate to the model.

The new map will involve Chinese urban combat. Of note is the amelioration of "runway grieving," which would not let a teammate punish his friendly pilot if he gets team killed on the runway, and the pilot will lose no points. That's a terrible, terrible change, and it's clear that DICE has caved to the vocal minority who found this technique annoying. The changes involving security of the game are much needed, however, and could actually make it more enjoyable.

It is disappointing that they addressed so little of what I complained about two years ago on my "battlefail" post. Maybe in 1.51...

(Update 4/23: The beta patch is now available.)

  2. I might have had a lot of bad luck, but i hope the new runway checks are good, because i ALWAYS had jerks running in front of the jets on purpose so they could punish you. maybe if they made a mature players only version eh?

Walt did you see they disabled the wonderful soundtrack on the second Tard Squad video? Whats that all about??

  4. i cant believe that. i didnt get any notificas. i might dispute it.

  5. Think is should site this?

It is likely that a bona fide parody, as opposed to satire, that does not usurp the market for plaintiffs work or unfairly free ride on plaintiffs work will be protected as a fair use. See Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music, 510 US 569 (1994). Courts have held that the fair use defense can protect a parody of a copyrighted work from an infringement claim. However, that does not necessarily mean that all parodies will be protected. In the case of a parody where the defendant raises a fair use defense, the courts will run through the four part fair use analysis just as they would with any other fair use test. [See above for the four part test].

While it is problematic to try to predict what a court will decide in any fair use case, it is likely that in the case of a parody the court will focus on the fourth factor of the inquiry, which requires the court to ask what effect the parody has on the potential market for the copyrighted work. If the parody usurps the market for the copyrighted work, then there is an increased chance that the court will find that the use is not fair. If the parody dampens the market for the copyrighted work as a result of its implicit criticism of the work, such a negative effect on the market does not render such use unfair.

  6. Yes, excellent find. Fight this with all youve got man that video isnt the same without Tiny Tim.
